Facebook has lost some its luster among students. Many of them have migrated to other forms of social media. In my youth ministry, Instagram and Twitter are two of their favorites.
That shouldn’t stop you from creating a Facebook page for your youth ministry.
Here’s 2 reasons why:
1) It’s free.
2) Your Facebook page is for parents, not students.
How many parents are on Facebook?
According to a study by Pew Research Center in September 2014, 71% of adult internet users are on Facebook. Among social media sites, Instagram has had the largest increase among adult users during the past year, but they top out at 28%.
Perhaps a more interesting statistic is that 70% of the 71% of adults on Facebook are active on the site everyday. 45% of them check back multiple times a day. That means when you post on your page, it’s more likely to be seen.
No matter how you slice the data, Facebook is still the most popular social media site by a landslide, especially for parents.
How to create your Facebook page in 4 easy steps.
Step 1:
Create a page from your existing Facebook account by clicking the arrow at the top right corner and selecting “Create Page” on the dropdown menu.
Step 2:
Choose your category, add your physical address, and click “Get Started.”
Step 3:
Add a description, your church website url, and a profile picture. Click “Save Info.”
Step 4:
Start inviting parents to Like the page.
What should you share on your Facebook page?
You should share:
Pictures from your events.
Bottom lines from your messages.
Tips and resources that parents would find helpful.
The key is to post consistently. Aim to post to your page 2 or 3 times every week.
Now it’s your turn.
Go create a page for your youth ministry, and put the power of Facebook to work for you. While you’re at it, check out the Facebook page I set up for mine.
Post a link to your ministry’s Facebook page in the comments!
